Beatles legend Paul McCartney gave superstar Beyonce his blessing to use the original “Blackbird” backing track for her version of the song from Cowboy Carter.

“I am so happy with Beyonce’s version of my song ‘Blackbird,'” McCartney said on Facebook. “I spoke to her on FaceTime and she thanked me for writing it and letting her do it. I told her the pleasure was all mine and I thought she had done a killer version of the song.”

It appears that Beyonce has used The Beatles’ original “Blackbird” backing track in her cover of the song. The new rendition incorporates instrumental elements directly from the original Beatles master recording released in 1968, including McCartney’s acoustic guitar and foot tapping.

McCartney himself confirmed this during a recent online FaceTime conversation.

In the credits for Cowboy Carter, McCartney has been credited with playing guitar on the song and is listed as one of the producers. However, the credits do not explicitly indicate that McCartney’s guitar work was not newly recorded for the track.

The original track was written solely by McCartney in 1968 for the band’s self-titled double-LP, aka The White Album.
